Wordle alternatives: choose the kind of puzzle you actually want
If you want another word puzzle, start with Word Steps or Word Hunt. If you want the same daily routine with a different skill, try today’s rotating puzzle.
Choose by task, rather than by the -dle name
A word ladder asks you to plan a sequence. A word grid asks you to notice adjacent letters. Rare-answer trivia asks you to retrieve examples from a category. These are different experiences; pick the one you want to practise.
Daily or unlimited?
Today’s DailyPlay puzzle uses the same date seed for everyone. Individual game pages allow more casual rounds. Official Wordle is published by the New York Times; DailyPlay is independent and does not reproduce its daily answers.
Start with the controls
On a phone, open the game before reading a long guide. Word Hunt accepts typed words as well as letter taps. Word Steps explains its finite dictionary, so an unrecognized word does not become a mystery.
